•Insights gained from
your interviews regarding current advocacy efforts and needs in your area of
interest within the field of early childhood
They insights I have gained from my interview regarding
current advocacy efforts is that, there are many organizations that help children
become fit and physical, such as, Michelle Obama “let’s move” organization. This
organization helps children become more involved in healthy eating and becoming
more active. As teachers, we have to find ways to help our students become more
active, such as more outside time, more exercising inside and outside the class,
and having parents involved as well. Parents play a big part in their child’s life
and healthy eating and lifestyles starts at home. Junk food and soda drinks
play a big part in childhood obesity, and as teachers we want to provide our children
with healthy snacks and lunch.
•How these interviews
may have influenced your decision about which area of interest and topics to
choose for your research paper
My interview influenced my decision about which area of interest
because, while growing up I’ve witness many overweight children as well as adults,
and I would see them in fast food restaurants or the candy store. I choose this
topic because, I want to see children live a happy and healthy lifestyle. Children
are supposed to be active and full of energy, and with the right help and time,
we can make a difference in a child’s life.
•Which area of
interest you are thinking of focusing on for your paper as well as the related
three specific topics
The area of interest I am thinking of focusing my paper on is,
Childhood obesity, as well as the related three specific topics is, being involve
in an organization, the cost of groceries, and budget crisis that affects our children
extracurricular activities.
•Questions you have
for your colleagues related to your area of interest and/or three topics
What types of organizations are out there to help our children
become healthy and active?
Why does it cost more to live a healthy life, but doesn’t cost
anything to live a “normal” life”
Tammie,
ReplyDeleteNice job. I think childhood obesity is a very good topic. I have been in the field for four years and have seen a lot of cases for obesity within our children. I think we as parents just want to give our children whatever they want to make them happy, but we have to be responsible and give them things that are good for them and will not harm their health.
This is a great posting, obesity is a big issue. With a world full of things that cause children to want to stay in side and playing video or computer games, we are losing the chance for children to go and explore the world around them. We have to be that role model and help them make better health choices.
ReplyDeleteTammie,
ReplyDeleteThis is an area that is growing in attention. Teachers, community, and parents are getting more aware and concern regarding what is happening in their community with children’s health. I like the way that you choose your three specific topics. They relate well to the topic and will give us a good understanding of what can be done.
Regarding your questions, in my county there is a lot of attention to children’s health. We have a new organization that is working just around bringing awareness and ways for children to be “happy and healthy”. The link for the website if you want to check it out is: http://www.marinkids.org/
It does cost more to eat healthy. There are many reasons for that. Now a day more families are working longer hours and others have a single parent. Parents are usually in a run and it is easier to grab a process food than to cook from scratch. Children are not used to see gardens which they can pick fruits and vegetables from. The changes in our society are having a great impact in our children’s lives.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments because honestly I didn't know what I was doing because I've never blogged before... :)
ReplyDeleteHello Tammie:
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting article that I found on internet for you. I heard about the 7 minute workout on the news the other day. According to a research done in Autralia, by having children and grownups complete 7 minutes a day 3 times per week will help them reduce the chances of getting heart diseases and will reduce obesity and other sedentary illnesses. The research was done by Coffs Harbour

ReplyDeleteWhat were some of the questions/answers and overall discussion did you have with your interviewees?
I asked my interviewees, why are there so many children obesity and why isn't their parents trying to help their child? I also asked them, what other organizations are out there to help children in a low-income communities?
